2008 Request for Grant Funding Consideration

Offered through a partnership between

the DreamScience foundationTM

and the International Association for the Study of Dreams

 

Notice: this year there is special grant funding available specifically earmarked by the donor for research dealing with combat related nightmares.  Submissions addressing this research topic will be considered for the larger pool of funding as well as this specific donation

 

Submission Areas  High quality research proposal Letters of Intent are invited in areas related to dreams and dreaming, including but not limited to: the neuroscience  of dreaming,  psychological studies of dreaming and quantitative dream research in such fields as anthropology and cultural studies.

 

Submission Deadline  15 August 2008  A Letter of Intent or summary submission will be required by 15 August 2008. These submissions will be reviewed by a research board and those submissions selected as candidates for a grant award will be invited to submit a final proposal. Final proposals will be required within 30 days of receiving your notice of invitation.  Awards are planned for the November to December timeframe.

ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE ELECTRONICALLY SUBMITTED (e-mail) to  bob@dreamscience.org .  You may contact Robert Hoss at this address with any questions you may have concerning the submission process.  All communications will be via e-mail so make sure your e-mail address is correct in all documentation.

 

Format Of Letter of Intent The submission process will begin with a letter of intent prior to formal proposal submission. All submissions and any attached material must be compiled into ONE COMPLETE DOCUMENT; multiple documents or attachments may be ignored. If separate supporting documentation is needed it will be requested.  Please use Microsoft Word (.doc) or plain text (.txt) format.   The Letter of Intent must contain at least the following:

1. Submitter’s Name(s) and Credential Designations if any (PhD, MA, etc.)

2. Affiliation: Name of the institution and Contact through which the research will be performed if any (University, College, Non-profit institution, Research organization, etc.).

3. Title of Your Research Activity

4. Summary of Proposed Program (maximum 400 words):

a)      A short summary in your own words;

b)      Objectives including the problem, premise, hypothesis or research issue to be addressed;

c)      The methodologies to be used;

d)     The expected results;

e)      Summary of populations or elements to be tested or studied

f)       IRB approval status – in the case of an institutions funding may be contingent upon IRB approval

g)      Estimated Timeframe to complete

5. Benefits:  How you see the results furthering dream science.

6. Brief Biography (maximum 50 words) for the researchers that will be involved.

7. Contact Information: name, e-mail address (required), telephone number (required), street address (optional), and fax if applicable.

8. Funding Required: Indicate the approximate level of funding requested to complete the work and whether the research can proceed if “seed” funding is granted which may not cover the total cost of the request.  Indicate what you expect to accomplish with the “seed” funding.  Note that IASD/DSF “seed” funding is dependent on donations received but typically at the $3,000 level per grant.  

9. Permission to Publish:  In the event of an award, DSF and IASD plan to announce the award, on both the web site and in other IASD publications as deemed appropriate.  We would also request that the researcher(s) receiving a grant, on a non-exclusive basis, submit results of the research to one of IASD’s publications and/or present the results at the appropriate IASD Annual conference. The grant award will include a scholarship, for one presenter, to the IASD conference for that purpose.  Please indicate whether these conditions are acceptable.  Awardees will be requested to send IASD/DSF a brief status report on at least a semi-annual basis. This status report will not be published.

  

THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF DREAMS (IASD) is a nonprofit, international, multidisciplinary organization dedicated to the pure and applied investigation of dreams and dreaming.
